THE PROCEDURE - Atrial Fibrillation Ablation

The CryoCor Cardiac Cryoablation System Technique

Procedure Image - The CryoCor Cardiac Cryoablation System Technique

The CryoCor sheath dilator is inserted at the groin (a) and advanced into the right atrium. The septum is punctured (b) and the CryoCor Cardiac Cryoablation catheter is passed through the sheath across the trans-septum and into the left atrium (c). After placement of a mapping catheter into the vein to determine if the vein has electrical activity and therefore needing treatment, the catheter tip is steered into one of the pulmonary veins. Tissue is frozen by the tip of the catheter electrically isolating the pulmonary vein from the left atrium and heart. This isolation is confirmed with the mapping catheter. (d)
